Prolonged heavy rain on the night of August 5 caused serious landslides on National Highway 6 section passing through Chieng Pac pass, Muoi Noi commune, causing traffic to be paralyzed for many hours.
Functional forces urgently rescued and evacuated people from dangerous areas and temporarily opened traffic on the morning of August 6.
According to a quick report from the People's Committee of Muoi Noi commune, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, the locality has urgently relocated people at 3 points at high risk of flooding and landslides, including Bon village, Phang village and Lay village. A total of 84 households with 395 people were taken to safe places.
By the time of reporting, the locality had not recorded any casualties due to natural disasters.
Previously, at about 10 pm on August 5, a landslide occurred on National Highway 6, the section from Km321+400 to Km324 through Chieng Pac pass, Muoi Noi commune, causing the main road connecting Son La with Dien Bien and Lai Chau to be completely cut off.
A large amount of soil and rocks spilled onto the road surface, burying 3 cars. Functional forces successfully rescued vehicles, the incident injured 1 person.
The incident also prevented many vehicles, including passenger cars running the Dien Bien, Lai Chau - Son La - Hanoi routes, from traveling through the area.
On the same night, Vice Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong and functional forces were directly present at the scene, directing rescue work, supporting people to evacuate from dangerous areas and mobilizing human resources and machinery to urgently overcome the consequences.
Functional units are also organizing traffic diversion, traffic regulation and soil and rock clearing to soon restore traffic on the route.
At about 6:20 am on August 6, National Highway 6 through Chieng Pac Pass was temporarily opened to traffic.
Functional agencies recommend that people and vehicles comply with the instructions of the task force, limit stopping and parking in areas at risk of landslides due to the complicated weather.
