At 9:30 am on March 11, Mr. Ngo Van Can (54 years old, in Binh Son commune, Quang Ngai province), captain of fishing vessel QNg-90459 TS, said that his fishing vessel and 36 fishermen had just been rescued and towed to Cam Ranh port (Khanh Hoa) safely by ship HQ 950 of Naval Region 4 Command.
When we returned to shore safely, I and the fishermen were very happy. Thank you to the functional agencies and the Command of Naval Region 4 for supporting us to bring us ashore. If we waited too long, we don't know what would happen, because the wind at sea is starting to get stronger," Mr. Can said.
Fishing vessel QNg-90459 TS captained by Mr. Ngo Van Can, with 36 fishermen on board, engaged in squid fishing, departed from Binh Thanh Border Guard Station on February 28.
On March 6, while operating at sea, the ship encountered engine failure. After temporary repair, the fishermen steered the ship back ashore. However, by the morning of March 9, the ship continued to have engine failure and could not be repaired, so it was forced to drift at sea.
Immediately after that, the ship owner's family informed the incident to Binh Thanh Border Guard Station and local authorities to ask for support.
Upon receiving information, at 16:40 on March 10, ship HQ 950 of the Command of Naval Region 4 departed from Hon Tre Island (Khanh Hoa) to rescue fishing vessel QNg-90459 TS with 36 fishermen drifting at sea due to engine failure.
At the time of receiving the information, fishing vessel QNg-90459 TS was about 28 nautical miles southeast of Hon Tre island, about 26 nautical miles northeast of Cam Linh cape (Khanh Hoa). Due to failure to fix machinery problems, the fishing vessel had to drift freely at sea at a speed of about 2.5 nautical miles/hour.
