In order to share the pain and loss with the people of Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province after the historic flash flood, and at the same time, to implement the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the inspection and working session on overcoming the consequences of the flash flood on the afternoon of September 12, the Tam Long Viet Fund of Vietnam Television proposed and was approved in principle by the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee to coordinate in participating in the reconstruction and rebuilding of houses for all 37 households in Lang Nu village.
Housing projects will be built in the new planning area along with some auxiliary projects such as community centers and clean water supply projects to help households overcome their grief and stabilize their lives.
All work will be carried out as quickly as possible to strive to complete the projects before December 31, 2024, as directed by the Prime Minister. In addition, the Tam Long Viet Fund would like to establish a long-term partnership and sponsorship with the people of Lang Nu village.
Nu Village is located at the foot of Voi Mountain, where 167 households with 760 Tay people have lived for many generations. The residents are mainly farmers, growing two crops of rice, corn, and cassava a year. The flash flood in the early morning of September 10 buried 37 households and affected 158 people.
As of the afternoon of September 13, 39 people were still missing in the horrific landslide in Lang Nu (8 people have just returned safely). Previously, authorities had found 48 bodies and taken 17 injured people to the hospital for treatment.
Currently, more than 650 people from Military Region 2, police, border guards, local forces, 5 search dogs and vehicles are still searching for the missing person.
According to the leaders of Bao Yen district, 37 households that lost their homes and families that were not affected but are in high-risk areas will be arranged new housing. The criteria for choosing a place to live are absolute safety for the people, adequate space, electricity, water, and green space. Construction funding will come from socialized sources.
In the immediate future, the district will arrange temporary accommodation for 37 households that lost their homes because they are still staying with relatives and kindergartens.
