On the morning of September 6, leaders of the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan, along with relevant Departments and Boards, inspected the scene of sand flooding on Nguyen Thong Street, Phan Thiet for the past 3 consecutive days due to heavy rain. Afterwards, the inspection team met to discuss solutions.
According to the leader of Phan Thiet City People's Committee, the initial solution is to increase the number of guards at both ends of Nguyen Thong Street where the sand is flowing down and set up barriers to guide people to other directions. At the meeting, there was also a solution to temporarily install stone cages to reduce water pressure.
As Lao Dong reported, on September 3, 4 and 5, red sand from the high hills poured down in front of house number 300 Nguyen Thong in Phu Hai ward, Phan Thiet city. The strong flow swept away people and motorbikes. On the afternoon of September 5, a girl was swept away about 200m and taken to the emergency room.
According to recent reports, heavy rains and water from high hills on Vo Nguyen Giap Street (706B) overflowed, carrying red sand from along 706B Street down to Nguyen Thong Street, causing local flooding. The strong flood currents carried a large amount of red sand onto the road. The cause was that the stormwater drainage system in the area had not been connected to the drainage system of Exit 01, 706B Street, so the overflowing water carried red sand and mud from the high hills down to the lower areas.
According to the leader of Phan Thiet city, the current drainage system is being constructed by the Provincial Management Board of Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Projects and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2024. Previously, the People's Committee of Phan Thiet city had built dikes to block and divide into steps to reduce the flow rate, but the sand flood still poured down like on the afternoon of September 5.
After the meeting on the morning of September 6, the units started implementing the temporary solutions that had been discussed.
Also on the morning of September 6, local authorities visited Binh Thuan General Hospital to visit and encourage PHP (born in 2004, residing in Phu Tai ward, Phan Thiet) whose motorbike was swept away 200m by sand flood on the afternoon of September 5.
