On May 16, Huong Lap Commune People's Committee said that it is conducting a review and proposing support for households with herds of cows killed by lightning in the area.
Previously, at about 7:10 am on May 15, Mr. Ho Van Trung (resident of Huong Lap commune) discovered 14 dead cows in the Trac Noi forest area (belonging to Cu Bai village, Huong Lap commune).
Immediately after receiving the information, Huong Lap Commune People's Committee coordinated with Huong Lap Border Guard Station and Huong Lap Commune Police to inspect the scene.
Through inspection, functional forces determined that the herd of cows had died about from May 12, the time when heavy rain and thunderstorms occurred in the area.
When discovered, the cows were in a state of bloating, exploding eyes, charred skin and lying adjacent to each other under a tree, about 1-2m apart. Around the area, many trees were also recorded showing signs of being burned.
Functional agencies determined that the cause of the cattle deaths was due to lightning strikes. Total estimated damage is about 150 million VND.
It is known that the 14 cows above belong to 6 households in Cu Bai village, Huong Lap commune.
Relevant units have organized disinfection and centralized destruction of dead cows in accordance with regulations; and at the same time continue to review and consider proposing to higher levels to support damage for people.
