On the evening of October 6, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Bach - Chairman of the People's Committee of Pu Nhung Commune, Dien Bien Province, said that due to heavy rain and thunderstorms at around 10am the same day, lightning hit the couple who were working as barbers, causing both of them to die on the spot.
Accordingly, the victims were identified as Mr. Giang A S. (born in 1973) and his wife Sung Thi D. (born in 1975), both residing in Ke Cai village, Pu Nhung commune.
At that time, both husband and wife were working at the corn field of their family in Ke Cai village when they were unfortunately hit by lightning, leading to their deaths.
Immediately after receiving the information, the People's Committee of Pu Nhung commune directed the Commune Civil Defense Command, the Police, the Military Command, and organizations and local authorities to promptly arrive at the scene. At the same time, they visited, encouraged, and shared the loss with the victim's family.

According to Mr. Bach, the heavy rain on October 6 also caused significant damage to property and transport infrastructure in Pu Nhung commune. Accordingly, the routes Phinh Sang - Muong Giang and Phieng Pi - Trai Phong were heavily eroded and are currently completely blocked. The estimated volume of landslides is up to about 50,000 m3.
In addition, floods also caused damage to trees, crops, and livestock of about 79 million VND.
