On the afternoon of November 5, Mr. Phan Van Cuong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Loc Tien commune - said that households affected by the risk of landslides in the Phu Gia mountain area (Loc Tien commune, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue) had been evacuated to a safe place.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Binh - Deputy Head of the Management Board of Thua Thien Hue Province's Industrial Economic Zone - said that up to now, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province has assigned the Board to plan and estimate an investment of about 65 billion VND to relocate and resettle 32 households in Phu Gia village. It is expected that in 2025, 32 households in the dangerous area at the foot of Phu Gia mountain will be moved to resettlement areas in Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone, Phu Loc district.
The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) of Phu Loc district informed that from the evening of November 4 to the morning of November 5, heavy to very heavy rain occurred in the district, commonly from 180 - 250mm.
It is forecasted that there will continue to be heavy to very heavy rain in the coming time. Due to heavy rain for many days, the soil has almost reached a state of water saturation, with a high risk of landslides in hilly areas.
Therefore, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Phu Loc district directed and requested the communes of Loc Tien, Loc Tri, Loc Binh, and Loc Dien to urgently evacuate 72 households in areas at very high risk of landslides. Other localities reviewed and issued warnings about locations at risk of landslides and flooding; reviewed and proactively evacuated people to ensure safety of life and property.
By the morning of November 5, functional forces and local authorities had evacuated 9 households/23 people in Tho Son village (Loc Tien commune); 14 households/65 people in Phu Gia village (Loc Tien commune) to safety. Localities are also continuing to evacuate people from areas at high risk of landslides.
In Loc Vinh and Vinh My communes, warning ropes and fences have been set up, forces have been deployed on flooded roads, and people have been warned not to go through deep water to ensure safety.
The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Phu Loc district also requested localities to immediately warn of dangerous locations so that people know when participating in traffic and to manage students after school hours.
According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Station of Thua Thien Hue province, from 10:00 on November 5 to 10:00 on November 7, the total rainfall in localities in the province is generally 150 - 300mm, in some places over 450mm; from noon on November 7 to November 9, there will continue to be moderate rain, scattered heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain. The total rainfall is generally 100 - 200mm, in some places over 300mm. The total rainfall for the whole period (from the morning of November 5 to 9) is generally 300 - 500mm, in some places over 600mm.
