Use energy economically and effectively towards a smart consumption society

The forum "Economic and efficient use of energy: Results and goals in the era of growth" organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the morning of June 26 has become an event affirming Vietnam's role in realizing commitments at COP26 and implementing a green growth strategy in a practical and effective manner.

The forum was held at the same time that the National Assembly has just passed the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Energy Efficiency and Savings - marking a strong change in national energy policy.

15 years - a journey to create change

Since the Law on Energy Efficiency and Savings was promulgated in 2010, Vietnam has gradually built a legal corridor, implemented national programs, promoted communication and technical assistance to raise awareness and action of the whole society.

According to the report of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the period of 2016-2020, the whole country has saved about 5.65% of total energy consumption, equivalent to billions of kWh of electricity. This is an impressive result, demonstrating the clear effectiveness of the policy and the synchronous participation of all levels, sectors and businesses.

This forum is an opportunity to summarize the 15-year journey of implementing the Law, thereby identifying the shortcomings and inadequacies and discussing policy orientations in accordance with the new context.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang - Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion - emphasized: "We are entering a new era, where energy is not only the lifeline of the economy, but also the pillar of sustainable development, environmental friendliness and innovation.

This forum is once again to re-evaluate the 15-year journey of implementing the Law on Energy Efficiency and Savings, and more importantly, to further identify innovative solutions so that energy-saving and efficient use activities in the coming period can be enhanced, contributing stronger and more effectively to making Vietnam develop more sustainably and more friendly in the new era, the era of science and technology and innovation, the era of national growth".

Integrating energy-saving and efficient into public policies, urban development planning, construction standards, and consumer equipment regulations are systematic steps to help Vietnam keep up with the trend of green globalization.

Bridge between policies and actions

Not only stopping at one-way information, the Forum is a place where multi-dimensional voices of stakeholders gather.

Representatives of international enterprises, experts and organizations have frankly raised the issue of technical barriers, institutions and resources when implementing in practice. Many recommendations have been made such as: needing to simplify procedures for accessing the Energy Savings Fund; expand support mechanisms for small and medium enterprises; and build a system to evaluate and effectively monitor energy savings projects in a transparent and measurable manner.

With the theme "Success and goals in the era of growth", the Forum conveys a clear message: Energy saving is not only a responsibility, but an opportunity for businesses to improve competitiveness, people to save on living costs, and the country to firmly step in the green transformation process.

The 2025 forum is not only a professional event, but a long-term orientation foundation for energy-using thinking in modern society. As digital transformation, AI and green technology increasingly penetrate into life, smart, transparent and sustainable energy consumption will become the development standard.

From this forum, a new strategy is gradually taking shape: Taking innovation as a driving force, taking people and businesses as the center, taking energy saving as a goal in parallel with economic development. This is the "green flame" that lights up the path of sustainable development of Vietnam in the new era.
