On May 11, at the Ngoi Lau bridge repair project (Yen Bai city), an incident occurred where a local excavator traveling through the bridge suddenly fell below. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
"This is a vital route to the western districts of Yen Bai province, so the traffic of people and vehicles passing through Ngoi Lau bridge is very large. However, during the construction process, contractors often lack protective measures, potentially causing traffic insecurity, especially at night," Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, Hop Minh Ward worried.
After the incident, the authorities requested the construction unit to erect barriers on both sides of the bridge and supplement safety measures.
The Ngoi Lau bridge repair project, route Km282+900, has a total investment of more than 16 billion VND, constructed by Thang Long Mechanical and Construction Joint Stock Company.
The project started on July 15, 2024 and was completed on May 10, 2025.
In mid-May 2025, according to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, the project is still unfinished, without girders and the bridge surface has not been completed. Around the construction site, many rusty steel components and rocks and soil have fallen all over the stream.
The construction waste is concrete when drilling for bulbs from the old bridge system that has not been cleared, falling all over the banks and the stream bed.
In addition, the frequent use of trucks carrying soil for the project across the bridge causes soil to fall, affecting traffic participants.
Talking to PV Lao Dong newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Trong Tien - Director of Yen Bai Provincial Road Maintenance Management Board said: Until the time of May 15, the new project can be made about 60-70%. The reason is that over the past time, there is a rain that has not been built. Besides, the beam design of the old bridge from the 1990s, the uniform pacific beats affecting the project progress.
"We are urging Thang Long Mechanical and Construction Joint Stock Company to speed up construction to complete it in June 2025," said the Director of the Yen Bai Provincial Road Maintenance Management Board.
