Diogo Jota and his younger brother Andre's funeral took place in Gondomar on July 5. Accordingly, the captain of the Portuguese team - Cristiano Ronaldo did not appear at the visit of his teammates.
However, according to British and Portuguese media, the 40-year-old superstar has quietly contacted Jota's family and sent his deepest condolences.
A British complaint said that Ronaldo had carefully considered before deciding not to attend the funeral, worried that his presence would cause public attention to be on him, affecting the solemn atmosphere of the farewell.
Meanwhile, another prestigious Portuguese newspaper confirmed that Ronaldo had directly spoken to Jota's family and expressed his willingness to support in the coming time. He wanted to have absolute respect for Jota by keeping quiet and not causing chaos in the painful moment of the family.
Ronaldo is currently on a summer vacation with his family in Majorca Island (Spain). Previously, he reminded his teammate through an emotional post on social media: "This is unreasonable. Recently, we were still together in the national team. Recently, he had a wedding ceremony. My condolences to Jota's family, wife and children and wish them all the best. I know you will always be with them. Take a break, Diogo and Andre. We will miss you two."
In addition, goalkeeper Alisson Becker (Liverpool) - who could not attend the funeral because he was abroad - also shared on Instagram: "Once again, the ocean stopped me from saying goodbye to the person I love. But I know my teammates at the club have represented me."
