Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota passed away tragically in a car accident at the age of 28. The accident occurred in Zamora, near the northwestern border between Spain and Portugal.
After the Liverpool star's sudden passing, the entire club expressed their sadness and gratitude to Jota. Liverpool have just spoken out with a statement confirming the news, while some of Jota's former clubs have also expressed condolences to his family.
"Liverpool are saddened by Diogo Jota's tragic departure. The club has been informed that Jota passed away after a traffic accident in Spain with his younger brother Andre.
Liverpool will not comment further at this time. We hope everyone will respect the privacy of Jota and Andre's family, friends, teammates and staff at the club. We will continue to update the situation" - Liverpool's homepage announced.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is perhaps one of the sadest people about Jota's departure. During his years with the Portuguese national team, Jota has always been one of the most important factors alongside Ronaldo.
Unlike other stars, Jota plays with a spirit of perseverance, silent dedication and impressive flexibility in attack.
Jota was willing to drop deep, challenge to build a wall and open up space for Ronaldo to demonstrate his scoring ability. CR7 has repeatedly praised Jota, considering him an ideal teammate, an intelligent, humble and dedicated player.
"We were together in the national team recently, and he has just gotten married.
I would like to express my condolences to his family, wife and children. Hopefully they will have enough strength to overcome this pain. I know you will always be with them. Take your time, Diogo and Andre. We will miss you" - Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.
Jota started his career with Pacos de Ferreira before moving to Atletico Madrid, Porto and Wolves. He spent three years at Wolves before joining Liverpool in 2020. Jota has made a total of 182 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 65 goals.
