On the afternoon of April 6, Nam Dong Ha Ward People's Committee (Quang Tri province) coordinated with Livestock and Veterinary Station No. 7 to destroy 100 pigs without quarantine papers, infected with African swine fever.
Previously, at about 1 pm on April 4, at Nam Dong Ha weighing station, functional forces inspected a car with license plate 17A-772XX driven by driver Vu Van Bien (Bac Dong Hung commune, Hung Yen province), which was transporting pigs through the area.
Through inspection, the vehicle owner could not present a quarantine certificate as prescribed. Recognizing suspicious signs, Livestock and Veterinary Station No. 7 took samples for testing. The results showed that all pigs in the car tested positive for African swine fever - a dangerous infectious disease that can spread quickly and cause great damage to the livestock industry.

Immediately after that, functional forces urgently destroyed all 100 pigs, and at the same time organized disinfection and sterilization of the related area to prevent pathogens from spreading to the environment.
Mr. Vu Van Bien said that he was hired by someone else to transport the pigs, so he did not know about the origin or related documents. When handing over the pigs at the location, he would receive the freight fee. After 100 pigs were found to be infected with African swine fever, Mr. Bien contacted the cargo owner again but could not call anymore.
Currently, functional agencies continue to verify the origin of the pigs and strictly handle cases of violations of regulations on transporting and trading animals without quarantine.
Mr. Duong Viet Phuong Tuan - Deputy Head of Quang Tri Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine said that it has strengthened the arrangement of officials to be close to the area, guiding people as well as farmers, households participating in slaughter control, and slaughterhouses must fully trace the origin of pigs when entering slaughter.
