According to initial information, at about 5 am on the same day, border guards discovered a steel-hulled ship with Chinese characters, blue hull, white cabin drifting and stranded on the coast of Tuyet Diem 1 village, Van Tuong commune. At this time, the ship closed its doors, did not turn on the signal lights and did not detect people on board.

Through verification, the vessel numbered Quynh Dam Ngu 08888. Previously, at about 7 pm on January 3, 2026, Fisheries Surveillance Vessel 309 discovered this vessel drifting freely in the area of Bac Mui An Hoa - Ky Ha, about 11 nautical miles from the shore, belonging to Vietnam's inland waters, so they organized approach and removal.

However, due to bad weather, big waves, and strong winds causing the cable to break, ship Quynh Dam Ngu 08888 continued to drift freely and then landed in the waters of Dung Quat.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tung Duong, Commander of Dung Quat Port Border Guard Station, by about 11 am on January 4, due to high tide and big waves, functional forces could not directly approach the ship.

Currently, the unit is coordinating with relevant agencies and local authorities to discuss and agree on a plan to approach, tow and handle ships according to regulations.
