On October 20, the Xa Mat International Border Guard Station (Tay Ninh Provincial Border Guard) said it had completed the receipt, classification and verification of 15 Vietnamese citizens returned by Cambodian authorities.
Previously, at noon on October 19, at Xa Mat International Border Gate, Tay Ninh Border Guard forces coordinated with the Criminal Police Department, Tay Ninh Provincial Police and related units to receive 15 citizens (14 men, 1 woman) from 9 provinces and cities across the country. These people were handed over by Trapeang Phlong International Border Gate Police Station (Cambodia).
According to the verification results, most of the above citizens went to Cambodia to work in online gambling areas, "love apps" or virtual stock exchanges to appropriate property. Of these, 9 people legally left the country through border gates or air routes, 6 people illegally crossed the border. No cases of criminal records have been detected.
The Xa Mat Border Guard has administratively sanctioned 4 cases of illegal border crossings, 1 person was given a statute of limitations and 1 person under 16 years old was given a warning. Notably, 3 citizens from Vinh Long were identified as having signs of being victims of human trafficking crimes. The three were tricked into going to Cambodia to work, then sold to casino areas. The case is being further investigated by Vinh Long Provincial Police.
After completing the procedures, the Border Guard of Tay Ninh province handed over 5 citizens to the police of Hanoi, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Thap provinces for management; 7 others were given the opportunity to return to their localities, and at the same time notified the local authorities to coordinate supervision. Three citizens of Vinh Long were transferred to serve the investigation of signs of human trafficking.
The reception and handling of the two countries' functional forces has been coordinated to be implemented seriously, ensuring compliance with regulations, contributing to maintaining security and order and protecting the legitimate rights of Vietnamese citizens in the Vietnam - Cambodia border area.
