According to Vietnam Airlines, from now until February 28, 2026, the Northern and North Central regions enter a typical weather phase with thick fog, drizzle and limited visibility, especially in the early morning and late at night.
Airports such as Cat Bi (Hai Phong), Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa), Vinh (Nghe An), Dong Hoi (Quang Binh), Phu Bai (Hue) regularly record low visibility, directly affecting take-off and landing operations.
In weather conditions that do not meet operating standards, flights may have to delay departure, wait for improved visibility or divert to land at alternate airports. Vietnam Airlines Group said that operational safety is always the top priority and all flight operation decisions are made on the basis of strict compliance with international safety procedures and standards.
Airlines also note that when flights to airports affected by fog cannot take off and land on schedule, the general operating schedule may change due to chain reactions, affecting the flight times of many flights during the day.
Vietnam Airlines is closely monitoring weather developments and closely coordinating with air traffic management agencies to develop flexible operating plans to minimize impacts on passengers.
Airlines recommend that passengers regularly check flight status through websites, mobile applications, switchboards or official channels before going to the airport, and arrive earlier than usual, especially for early morning and late night flights.
This Tet holiday, Vietnam Airlines is expected to operate more than 1,300 night flights from February 1st to March 3rd, 2026, providing nearly 300,000 seats to serve the increasing travel demand.
To make the journey more convenient, passengers should check in online within 24 hours before departure via website, mobile application, VNeID, switchboard or self-check-in counter at the airport. Biometric technology helps shorten waiting times, especially for passengers without checked baggage, contributing to reducing the load at the airport during Tet.
