On July 24, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Thanh Hoa province said that as of 4:00 p.m. on July 23, local authorities had proactively evacuated 627 households with 2,842 people to safety.
Due to prolonged heavy rain, the whole province had 30 houses with unroofed and damaged roofs, 1 house had to be urgently evacuated. The area of rice and crops flooded was more than 23,200 hectares, including 22,700 hectares of rice and 468 hectares of crops.
Regarding livestock, 22 cows, 5 pigs and about 3,000 free-range ducks were swept away; more than 20,000 chickens (30-40 days old) died due to flooding. In addition, more than 184 hectares of fish farming areas and 31 hectares of shrimp ponds were flooded and overflowed. The two fishing boats sank due to the impact of floods.
The dike area recorded 10 incidents, typically: landslides on the dike slope of the West of the Cung River (Hoang Chau commune); searching for the Vuc Bo culvert at K12+070 on the right dike of the Nhom River (Tan Ninh commune); landslides on the left dike slope of the Ma River (Hoang Loc commune); landslides on the right dike slope of the Chu River (Tho Xuan commune) ...
The traffic system was seriously affected with many national highways such as National Highway 15, 15C, 16, 47... experiencing landslides on positive slopes and ditches. The spillway at 9 locations on provincial roads was flooded from 0.5m to 4m deep, causing traffic jams. There are 12 landslides on the positive slope and rolling rocks with a volume of about 1,300m3. 10 low-voltage power poles were broken and fell.
According to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, the natural disaster situation in the area is still complicated, especially floods on riverbanks and flooding in low-lying areas. Localities are continuing to review, count, assess the damage in detail and propose timely response plans.
