According to information from people in Muong Xen commune, Nghe An province, on the night of July 22, the water level increased rapidly, sweeping away many properties, and flooding many houses.

Many families did not sleep all night, worried about flooding, many people only managed to escape, and their properties were swept away by the flood. Many residential areas were isolated and isolated, many transport infrastructure items were swept away by floods.

Previously, on the evening of July 22, due to prolonged heavy rain, the Nam Mo River water rose, combined with flood discharge from hydropower plants, many areas in Muong Xen commune (old Ky Son district) and along National Highway 7 were severely flooded.

Chairman of Nghe An province directs evacuation of people to safe places

On July 23, information from Nghe An Provincial People's Committee said that Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh had just signed and issued urgent notice No. 604 to the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense, competent agencies and People's Committees of mountainous communes requesting urgent organization of flood prevention solutions.

Accordingly, at 9:00 p.m. on July 22, 2025, the flow to the upstream of Ban Ve hydroelectric reservoir reached 9,543 m3/s, nearly reaching the peak flood flow of 10,500 m3/s ( frequency of 0.02%, that is, 5,000 times a year). The lake is cutting and reducing floods with a discharge flow downstream of 1,727 m3/s and will increase rapidly in the coming time.

The Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee requested the Commander of the Provincial Military Command, the Director of the Provincial Police, Directors of Departments, Heads of provincial departments, branches, and organizations, and People's Committees of localities downstream of Ban Ve Hydropower Plant to urgently mobilize all forces and means to support the evacuation of people and property to safe places.
