According to the Hạ Long City People's Committee, immediately after merging with Hoành Bồ District, Hạ Long City prioritized investing over 60 projects with a total investment of over VND 4,000 trillion to develop infrastructure, particularly transportation, culture, education, clean water... in mountainous communes, remote, deep, and far areas.
Among them, there are 8 infrastructure projects related to transportation, with a total investment of VND 3,383 trillion from the city's budget.
This does not include tens of thousands of billions of dong invested from the provincial budget for dynamic infrastructure projects to connect the Hạ Long center with the mountainous region with great development potential in the former Hoành Bồ District.
The infrastructure projects invested by the provincial budget in Hạ Long City include 7 projects with a total investment of over VND 14,900 trillion, including 4 projects that have been put into use with a total investment of over VND 7,400 trillion. The remaining 3 projects are expected to be soon launched with a total investment of over VND 7,280 trillion.
The infrastructure projects that have been and are being implemented have had a very significant impact on the development of the former Hoành Bồ District. These are inter-regional, intra-regional, and inter-regional infrastructure projects that connect low-lying areas with high-lying areas, dynamic areas with difficult areas, contributing to narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, reducing regional disparities; meeting the travel needs of the people, promoting trade and commerce, developing eco-tourism, and creating a new driving force for the socio-economic breakthrough of Hạ Long City and Quảng Ninh Province.
The city plans to invest in approximately 45 projects from now until 2025, with a total investment of tens of thousands of billions of dong, thereby creating a driving force and expanding new development space for Hạ Long.
Currently, Hạ Long City is researching and investing in projects such as the connection point between the Hạ Long - Vân Đồn expressway and provincial road 342 at Trại Me hamlet, Sơn Dương commune, Hạ Long City, with a preliminary estimate of VND 158 trillion; the road connecting from the Tình Yêu Bridge intersection to the Bình Minh road, with a preliminary estimate of VND 5,300 trillion.
After merging with Hoành Bồ District in 2020, Hạ Long City became the largest city in the country in terms of natural area (approximately 1,120 km2), administrative unit, and driving force to promote Quảng Ninh Province to become a directly-controlled municipality as soon as possible. Currently, the population of Hạ Long is 481,000 people.
