This morning - September 8, according to the report of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thai Binh province, due to the impact of storm No. 3, in Thai Binh, strong winds of level 9, level 10, gusts of level 12 were measured; the average rainfall in the whole province from September 6 to 7:00 a.m. on September 8 was 203.4 mm, especially in high places such as An Hiep commune, Quynh Phu district, the average rainfall was 419.4 mm.
As of September 8, in the whole Thai Binh province, there were 74,327 hectares of winter-spring rice, of which the flowering area was about 27,407 hectares (reaching 35%); the harvested summer-autumn crop area was about 5,000 hectares (reaching 58% of the total cultivated area).
After storm No. 3, 28,000 hectares of winter-spring rice in the province were damaged by 30-70%, 27,000 hectares were damaged by >70%, of which 18,000 hectares of flooded rice were flooded; 585 hectares of newly planted winter-spring vegetables and unharvested summer-autumn vegetables were affected by 30-70%, 2,760 hectares were affected by >70%; 1,215 hectares of fruit trees, bananas... were affected by 30-70%, 170 hectares were affected by >70%.
To drain and prevent flooding in the fields, from 2am on September 8, pumping stations across the province have resumed operation, and drainage has been directed to be thorough throughout the system. Accordingly, drainage sluices have been opened; all means have been mobilized to clear the flow to drain water, using forced pumping; combining rapid drainage to save flooded crops; prioritizing rapid pumping and drainage for areas that are severely flooded and difficult to drain.
The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thai Binh province requested and directed units and localities to review and specifically assess the damage to the area of rice, crops, and aquatic products, and proactively take measures to overcome and restore production. There are plans to promptly support people in damaged areas to restore and develop production.
Regarding the number of houses, factories, offices, schools with roofs blown off, and many trees broken and uprooted (detailed data is being compiled by localities). According to preliminary statistics, about 30 electric poles were knocked down; 11 telecommunication poles were knocked down or broken; 17 transformer stations had problems. Up to now, the province has not recorded any damage to people or ships.
On the afternoon of September 8, speaking with Lao Dong reporters, the leader of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province said: According to preliminary statistics, in the district, about 2,850 hectares of rice that have been and are in bloom have been tilted and flooded (currently, drainage work is being urgently carried out); 1,100 hectares of crops (800 hectares of summer crops, 300 hectares of winter crops) have been affected.
Some aquaculture areas have been flooded; trees on many inter-commune and inter-village roads have been broken and uprooted; some roads have been partially flooded; 1 school and medical station have had their corrugated iron roofs blown off, doors blown off, and glass broken; dike works have been ensured to be safe; some factories in industrial parks and clusters have had their corrugated iron roofs blown off, with no major damage recorded.
In the whole district, there were about 27 low-voltage power poles broken, 1 high-voltage pole tilted, many medium-voltage lines in 13 poles and stations were broken, and porcelain equipment was broken. Tien Hai District People's Committee, the District's Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue have been and continue to direct all levels, sectors, localities and units to urgently and quickly overcome the damage and handle incidents after storm No. 3 in accordance with the direction of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thai Binh province.
