People in the project area are thirsty
The Krong rich Thuong reservoir project started construction in 2009 with an initial total investment of nearly VND 2,900 billion, divided into two phases.
Phase 1 includes main items such as Ea Pat Lake cluster, Krong Pac Thuong Lake, main canal system and level 1 canal.

Currently, Ea Rap Lake, with a capacity of nearly 20 million m3, has come into operation. Meanwhile, Krong Pac Thuong Lake with a capacity of 123 million m3 is expected to provide irrigation water for 12,000 hectares of agricultural land and domestic water for more than 100,000 households.
However, due to problems with site clearance, at the end of 2018, the project had to adjust the total investment to more than VND 4,400 billion.
In 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) will continue to allocate an additional VND1,120 billion to implement phase 2 from 2023 to 2026.
This period focuses on providing irrigation water to the communes of Cu Prong, Cu Ni, Cu ELang, Ea O, Ea Pan (Ea Kar district) and Vu Bon commune (Krong Pac district).
Currently, the water channel system is not yet complete. In Phu Quy village, Vu Bon commune, more than 200 households have to drill wells to get domestic water and irrigation. Due to scarce water resources, each household spends more than 1 million VND/month on water pumping.
Mr. Nguyen Van Sinh, a resident, shared: "My family has 2 hectares of rice and water, but due to lack of water, we have to drill wells at a cost of about 40 million VND, plus monthly maintenance costs, making life very difficult."
Head of Phu Quy village, Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia, said: "The people hope that the Krong rich Thuong reservoir project will be completed soon to have domestic water and irrigation, helping to reduce costs and improve the economy".
Speed up the progress of the canal system
The Management Board of Investment and Construction of Irrigation 8 (Board 8) was assigned to be the investor in the construction of the Northern main canal system - an important item in phase 2 with a total investment of 220 billion VND.
Mr. Le Khac Tuyen, Deputy Head of Department 8, said: "The unit has disbursed 40 billion VND for the Northern main canal project, nearly 13km long. Contractors are mobilizing human resources, equipment, and materials to speed up construction progress in the dry season".
In addition, other canal systems are also being deployed to soon bring water back to serve people in Krong Pac and Ea Kar.
The leader of Ea Kar District People's Committee commented: "Only when the project is completed and the canal system is connected will people have a stable water source, helping to develop production and improve their lives".
