According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, in the afternoon of July 18, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning data showed that the convective cloud area is developing strongly, causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Binh Khanh and An Thoi Dong communes.
In the next 3 hours, the convective cloud region will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above two areas, and is likely to expand to Phu My ward, Can Gio commune, Thanh An commune, Phuoc An commune, Tan Thanh ward, Chau Duc commune, Kim Long commune and neighboring areas.
Common rainfall is from 10-30 mm, in some places over 40 mm. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Heavy rain can also cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Regarding weather patterns in the next 24-48 hours, the Southwest monsoon in the Southern region continues to operate with moderate intensity. Above, the subtropical high pressure with its axis through the South of the South tends to gradually recede southward.
In the period from 3-10 days, the Southwest monsoon will still maintain average intensity. The southern subtropical high pressure continues to weaken and move southward, while the northern subtropical high pressure slowly encroaches westward with its axis passing through the North. From July 23-24, a low pressure trough with its axis through the central and southern East Sea areas will be established.
Due to the influence of the above weather patterns, the South from July 18th onwards will have showers and thunderstorms in some places; especially in the afternoon and evening there will be scattered showers, locally with moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind can cause damage to agricultural production, causing trees to fall, damage to houses and infrastructure works. Heavy rain also increases the risk of localized flooding, affecting traffic, daily life and production activities of people.
