Many areas in Hanoi lose power
At 10 pm on May 26, electricity suddenly went out in Ms. Nhat Ha's house (98 Tan Trieu, Thanh Liet ward, Hanoi City). This is the 3rd consecutive night that the entire Tan Trieu neighborhood has lost power amidst peak heat, the temperature during the day reached 40 degrees Celsius, and at night about 34 degrees Celsius.
According to Ms. Ha, the power outage at night caused many difficulties for her family's life. Having a young child, she had to be sent to a relative's house on Giang Vo street. Other family members had to move to the 1st floor to sleep.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Trieu Dinh Luong - Director of Trieu Khuc Agricultural Production Service Cooperative - said that the prolonged power outage for 3 consecutive nights stemmed from overloading the power grid.
According to Mr. Luong, so far the incident has been basically overcome after the unit completed the load transfer, ensuring the system operates stably again.
We also apologize to the people for the incident that affected their lives. At the same time, the cooperative has sent a document to the Ward People's Committee proposing to invest in more power stations to reduce the load on the system" - Mr. Luong said.
Not only the Tan Trieu area, the situation of power outages or intermittent power in the two days of May 25-26 occurred in many areas of Thanh Xuan, Cau Giay, Long Bien, Hoang Mai, Tu Liem wards and some suburban communes.
Electricity consumption continues to set an unprecedented record
EVN Hanoi said that the weather continues to be hot, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius at times, causing the demand for cooling equipment to increase.
According to records of the Hanoi City power system, the peak capacity (Pmax) set at 9:30 PM on May 26, 2026 was 6, 290MW, an increase of nearly 5% compared to the peak capacity in 2025 (5, 992 MW); electricity consumption on May 26 also reached 131.76 million kWh, an increase of 7.3% compared to 2025 (122.84 million kWh). All indicators set new unprecedented records.
In order to spread the habit of using electricity safely, economically and efficiently in the community, EVN Hanoi calls on people to join hands to use electricity reasonably this summer.
Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) said that it is implementing many solutions simultaneously, closely coordinating with NSMO to maintain the goal of ensuring electricity supply to the economy and people's lives during the peak dry season of 2026.
For the transmission block, the focus is to increase the frequency of inspection of key locations, route corridors, transformer stations and high-load power lines; arrange sufficient forces, prepare materials and backup vehicles to quickly handle incidents (if any).
Meanwhile, Power Corporations are required to continue working with local authorities and large customers to promote the implementation of the Electricity Demand Management (DSM) program, including load relocation and load adjustment (DR), promote propaganda, encourage and maximize support for customers installing self-producing and self-consuming rooftop solar power, and mobilize customers to proactively turn on on-site Diesel generators during extreme operating hours...
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - General Director of EVN requested Power Corporations to improve their proactiveness further, working with small production customers to implement load adjustments, contributing to reducing stress on the national power system.
