On the morning of May 28, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Quoc Cuong - Chairman of Binh Dinh Ward People's Committee (Gia Lai) - said that the locality is holding a meeting and dialogue with people to clarify reflections related to the payment of crop damage support after storm No. 13 (storm Kalmaegi), in which some cases only received 2,000 VND.
Information that people have to wait many hours to receive a few thousand VND in support money does not reflect the truth, the locality is currently holding a people's meeting to clarify," Mr. Cuong said.
Previously, a post appeared on Facebook social network reflecting the payment of damage support due to storm No. 13 in Binh Dinh ward. The content attracted attention when some households only received a few thousand VND in support money.
Through investigation, Mr. N.H. S (75 years old, residing in Hieu An residential group, Binh Dinh ward) said that after storm No. 13, the family's glass doors were broken, the corrugated iron roof behind the house was blown off, and 2 ornamental plant pots were damaged. The cost of repairing the roof and ceilings is about 600,000 VND, and the family's glass doors are self-repaired.
After the storm, the locality issued a declaration of damage. Initially, Mr. S. thought that the declaration was only for statistics, not thinking he would be supported.
On May 24, Mr. S. was notified to come to the payment point to receive support. Present from the beginning of the afternoon but waiting for many hours and still not receiving the money, he had to ask relatives to stay and receive it instead.
After that, the family was informed to receive 2,600 VND in support money.
What makes the family worried is not necessarily whether the amount of money is small or large, but having to wait quite a long time to receive a very small amount of support," Mr. S. shared.
In addition to Mr. S.'s case, some other households were also supported for apricot tree damage with levels from 1,300 - 6,500 VND.
According to the leader of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Binh Dinh ward, the declaration, appraisal and payment of support are carried out in accordance with State regulations. The level of support is calculated according to the actual damage area, so in some cases the amount is only a few thousand VND.
Mr. S.'s household alone received a support of 2,600 VND because the damaged area is about 0.0003ha.
Leaders of Binh Dinh Ward People's Committee said that this is the first support phase for crop damage after the storm, with a total budget of more than 313 million VND for 401 households.
