At about 10:15 am on May 1st, the search forces discovered and recovered the body of Mr. Nguyen Lanh (born 1972), residing in hamlet 5, Van Tuong commune. Local authorities promptly arrived, encouraged and visited the victim's family, and coordinated to carry out procedures to hand over the body for the family to take care of the funeral.
Previously, at about 3 pm on April 30, Mr. Nguyen Lanh, while sitting with about 10 friends in the Go Lang dam area, went into the water and swam across the bank. When swimming to the middle of the dam, the victim unfortunately drowned and went missing.
Immediately upon receiving the news, the Military Command of Van Tuong commune coordinated with the rescue and relief police force to quickly arrive at the scene and deploy search measures. Battalion 3, South Central Mobile Police Regiment mobilized officers and soldiers along with specialized vehicles, closely coordinated with militia forces and local forces, urgently searching overnight.
Directly present at the scene to direct the search, Mr. Ung Dinh Hien, Chairman of Van Tuong Commune People's Committee, said that immediately after the incident occurred, the locality mobilized many forces and vehicles to participate in the search with the highest determination.
About 20 officers and soldiers of Battalion 3, Mobile Police Regiment of South Central Region; 12 officers and soldiers of the Military Command of Van Tuong commune; 0 VND rescue squad 76 Quang Ngai; and 9 divers in Thanh Thuy and Phuoc Thien villages were mobilized, with many vehicles such as motorboats, canoes, basket boats and specialized equipment. The forces have developed optimal search plans, deployed synchronously and continuously on the water surface and under the dam.
