On October 21, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Tourism coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications, the Provincial Police, and the Nha Trang City People's Committee to hold a meeting to inspect and verify information reported by the press about bad guys setting up fake fanpages of major hotels in Nha Trang to defraud and appropriate customers' deposits for personal gain.
Along with the press's reflection, the above coordination was carried out after Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee concluded and proposed solutions to handle and resolve the issue.
At the end of September 2024, the Department of Tourism of Khanh Hoa province sent a document to local tourism agencies requesting them to be more vigilant against the situation of many 4-5 star hotels in Nha Trang city having fake fanpages set up to defraud and appropriate guests' room deposits.
According to the Department of Tourism, the subjects claimed to be hotel consultants and other services and approached customers, enthusiastically advising them and asking them to transfer money.
After the customer moved, these people did not provide service but turned off the phone or blocked communication. The customer checked that his name was not in the hotel system and realized he had been scammed.
Authorities assessed that this was a sophisticated and systematic scheme, occurring many times with many customers.
Most of the bad guys impersonate famous 4-5 star hotels and resorts in Khanh Hoa, located in prime locations, near Tran Phu coastal road, Nha Trang city such as Vinpearl Resort, Comodo, Melissa, Senia, Havana.
Hotels have posted warnings about scams, but many fake sites are still running ads, confusing customers and defrauding them of tens of millions of dong in room reservations.
