Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just approved the policy of continuing to deploy urgent works to overcome the situation of landslides, subsidence of the Tau Hu canal embankment and damage to the Ba Dinh road surface (Chanh Hung ward), with a total estimated cost of about 100 billion VND.
According to the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the project will be implemented with regular funding for traffic maintenance, ensuring full compliance with procedures and procedures according to current regulations. Unchanged contents will continue to be implemented according to the emergency construction order issued earlier.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to urgently organize surveys and construction to reinforce weak soil foundations, handle damaged culvert sections, and at the same time restore the Tau Hu canal embankment and Ba Dinh road surface, soon stabilize the area's infrastructure, and ensure traffic safety and people's lives.
At the same time, the Department of Construction is required to comprehensively review the wastewater collection and treatment system in the central area, especially underground sewers and manholes with large depths. The review aims to promptly detect abnormal and damage risks to propose handling plans, avoiding the recurrence of similar subsidence. Completion deadline before May 15, 2026.
Regarding capital sources, the Department of Finance is assigned to preside over and advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to supplement the budget expenditure estimate for traffic maintenance work to serve the project implementation. While waiting for additional funding, the Department of Construction proactively uses the regular expenditure allocated to immediately implement urgent items.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction had a document proposing that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approve the implementation of an emergency project to overcome landslides and subsidence of the Tau Hu canal embankment and damage to the Ba Dinh road surface from traffic maintenance funds. The expected completion time is August 2026.
The incident occurred on January 18, 2026 in the area near the Ba Dinh - Le Quang Kim intersection, causing a part of Ba Dinh street along with the sidewalk and embankment to sink with a length of about 25 m, width of 16 m, and depth of more than 3 m.
By February 2nd, the area continued to erode about 8 m further upstream, with subsidence appearing on the road surface and sidewalks about 12 m long, the deepest point nearly 1 m. High tides rising day by day make the situation even more serious.
The incident did not cause any casualties but damaged many infrastructure items. Functional units have implemented temporary measures to prevent landslides from spreading and ensure the safety of the area, but have not handled it thoroughly.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, initial survey results show that sand and materials entering the sewer at the location of culvert D1. 800 at the foot of the embankment and culvert D500 under the collapsed pit are the direct cause of the incident.
