On January 19, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh led a working delegation to survey the actual scene of the subsidence of Ba Dinh street, Chanh Hung ward.
After inspecting the scene, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh determined that this was an emergency incident, requiring immediate handling solutions to avoid widespread landslides.

The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has directed to unify the handling plan according to the emergency mechanism stipulated in Decree 175/2024/ND-CP. Accordingly, in the afternoon of January 19, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will consider the implementation policy based on the advice of departments and branches. To ensure progress, the Department of Finance is required to immediately allocate funds according to the emergency mechanism.
Focus on implementing the fastest solutions but must ensure the quality and safety of the project, at all costs before the Lunar New Year, it must be resolved," emphasized the Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
Representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said that right in the early afternoon of January 19, the unit will pump out all water to check the leak points and propose solutions to ensure the drainage system. At the same time, the department will work with consulting units to review the entire canal route, have radical solutions to handle it, and prevent similar cases from happening.
City leaders also assigned the Department of Construction and localities to survey the entire canal route, especially paying attention to curves and curved sections to have proactive prevention plans, instead of waiting for incidents to occur before overcoming them.

According to the leader of Chanh Hung Ward People's Committee, the incident occurred at 6 am on January 18th on Ba Dinh street (section near Hung Phu 310 Park).
The incident caused tens of meters of subsidence along the Tau Hu canal embankment. The subsidence deepened into the mainland about 16 meters from the top of the embankment, pulling down the entire sidewalk, green space and part of Ba Dinh street.
Representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment assessed that the incident directly affects the technical infrastructure and safety of surrounding households, so urgent handling solutions are needed.
Currently, local authorities have coordinated with the Technical Infrastructure Management Center and the Waterway Management Center to implement barrier measures and on-duty operations to ensure safety for people throughout the construction process.
