Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just announced a list of dangerous and especially dangerous landslide locations on riverbanks, canals, and ditches in the City (after merger).
Ho Chi Minh City currently has 43 landslide locations on riverbanks, canals, and ditches, including 8 particularly dangerous locations and 35 dangerous locations, affecting 555 households in 18 wards and communes, including: Binh Trung, Cat Lai, Hiep Binh, Binh Quoi, Thanh My Tay, An Phu Dong, Nha Be, Hiep Phuoc, Binh Hung, Hung Long, Tan Nhut, An Thoi Dong, Binh Khanh, Binh My, Lai Thieu, Tan Uyen, Thuong Tan, Ba Ria.
Notably, in Binh Trung ward, 2 particularly dangerous landslide points appeared on the right and left banks of Giong Ong To canal (near Giong Ong To 1 bridge). This area has an erosion scope of about 150m on each side of the bridge abutment, located in a densely populated residential area, directly affecting 19 households.

Faced with the above situation, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requests investors of landslide prevention embankment projects to urgently accelerate the progress of establishment, appraisal, approval and construction deployment. For areas that have handed over land but have not been constructed, it is necessary to proactively reinforce temporarily, especially at key points such as Thanh Da peninsula. Projects must be carefully surveyed in terms of terrain, geology, and hydrology; after completion, they need to be handed over to effective management and operation units.
The Department of Construction is assigned to accelerate investment procedures for embankment projects, and at the same time strengthen the management of inland waterway port operations, strictly handle cases of encroachment on the riverbank protection corridor. The review of riverside traffic routes is also required to be carried out regularly to promptly detect landslide risks and have safety measures.
Ho Chi Minh City Police coordinate with relevant units to strengthen patrols, inspections, and strictly handle the situation of illegal sand and gravel mining - one of the main causes of landslides.

The authorities of relevant wards and communes are responsible for accelerating site clearance to serve embankment projects; organizing barriers and placing warning signs in dangerous areas; propagating to people to proactively prevent and be ready with relocation plans when necessary. At the same time, localities must inspect and strictly handle the situation of illegal construction and riverbank encroachment.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requested localities to review and report points at risk of landslides before April 29, 2026 to serve the assessment and announcement of the new list.
For 11 locations that have not yet had investment policies, localities need to proactively monitor developments, warn of dangers and soon propose landslide prevention embankment projects.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to accelerate the approval of compensation unit prices, organize the installation of warning signs, and coordinate to assess the extent of landslides to advise on the announcement of the list for 2026.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that departments, branches and localities must continue to strictly implement regulations on landslide and natural disaster prevention; periodically report results, and promptly remove difficulties to ensure safety for people and stabilize riverside infrastructure throughout the area.
