Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a decision on organizing the selection of investors for the Ho Tram - Long Thanh International Airport urban expressway project according to the public-private partnership (PPP) method. Accordingly, the project applies the form of investor selection in special cases.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transport Works to urgently complete procedures to select investors in accordance with regulations.
At the same time, the Department of Construction is assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to develop a detailed plan to organize the project groundbreaking ceremony.
According to the plan, the Ho Tram - Long Thanh International Airport urban expressway will be started on the morning of July 1st along with many other key projects and works on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Saigon - Gia Dinh city officially named after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026).
The Ho Tram - Long Thanh International Airport urban expressway project is about 42.07 km long.
The starting point connects to Ring Road 4 HCMC and DT. 991 road in Tan Thanh ward, the ending point intersects with DT. 994 road (coastal road) in Xuyen Moc commune.
The route passes through wards and communes including Tan Thanh, Kim Long, Ngai Giao, Nghia Thanh, Binh Gia, Xuan Son, Hoa Hoi, Ho Tram and Xuyen Moc.
According to the design, the main route meets urban expressway standards with a speed of 100 km/h, including 6 lanes. At sections passing through residential areas and urban development areas, parallel roads will be built on both sides, 2 lanes on each side, design speed of 60 km/h.
Notably, the section passing through Binh Chau - Phuoc Buu forest will be built with a 32m wide highway viaduct with 6 lanes to limit the impact on the ecosystem.
The project uses about 416 hectares of land, divided into two component projects. In which, component project 1 builds an intersection connecting DT. 991 road with Ring Road 4 of Ho Chi Minh City, about 2.27 km long.
Component project 2 builds the main route from Km2+270 to DT. 994 intersection along with a traffic control system, about 39.8 km long.
The total investment of the entire project is about 46,918 billion VND, including loan interest costs during construction. The project is expected to be completed in 2029.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, when put into operation, the expressway will strengthen the connection between Chau Duc, Phu My, Xuyen Moc areas with Long Thanh International Airport, seaport system, industrial parks and tourist centers of the Southeast region.
This is also expected to form a new economic development corridor associated with industry, logistics, trade, services and marine tourism; and at the same time expand urban development space, improve the efficiency of land fund exploitation and create sustainable revenue sources for the budget.
In particular, direct connection with Long Thanh International Airport will create motivation to promote the Ho Tram - Xuyen Moc axis to strongly develop resort tourism and high-quality services, contributing to the formation of a new growth pole in the eastern area of Ho Chi Minh City and the entire Southeast region.
