In order to ensure traffic safety and limit congestion during the September 2 holiday, Ho Chi Minh City has implemented a traffic diversion plan and announced a series of emergency support phone numbers to serve the people.
According to forecasts, the number of visitors to traffic hotspots will increase compared to last year. At Tan Son Nhat airport, it can receive about 125,000 passengers per day, an increase of 6% over the same period. Saigon Station is expected to welcome more than 12,800 visitors/day, double in 2024. Inter-provincial bus stations are also estimated to serve more than 65,000 passengers/day.
For waterway transport, Cat Lai ferry is expected to have about 60,000 passengers/day, Binh Khanh ferry is about 32,000 passengers, while the Can Gio - Vung Tau ferry route will increase by about 20%. The Ho Chi Minh City - Vung Tau expressway alone is expected to welcome 1,000 passengers per day. On metro line No. 1, the number of trips will be increased from 226 to 264 trips/day, operating continuously from 5am to 11pm.
Many points are warned of the risk of serious congestion, especially the area around Tan Son Nhat airport with Truong Son, Cong Hoa routes, Lang Cha Ca roundabout and Pham Van Dong section connecting Nguyen Thai Son. The old Mien Dong bus station area is prone to congestion at Hang Xanh intersection, Binh Trieu bridge, Dinh Bo Linh - Nguyen Xi intersection; the new Mien Dong bus station is at risk of traffic jams on National Highway 1 and Tan Van intersection; Mien Tay bus station is often under pressure at An Lac roundabout, National Highway 1, Vo Tran Chi street and Kinh Duong Vuong axis.
The gateways to the city are also under special monitoring, including An Phu intersection, Phu My bridge, Cat Lai ferry (to the East), National Highway 50, Tran Van Giau street, Binh Thuan - Cho Dem expressway (to the West and Southwest).
To reduce the load, Ho Chi Minh City has directed the increase of vehicles at bus stations, train stations, and airports; at the same time, flexibly adjusting bus and metro charts to connect more effectively with points of contact. Bus routes serving Saigon airport, Saigon station and inter-provincial bus stations will increase by about 10% of trips. The authorities will regularly regulate at key locations, strictly handle illegal stopping, soliciting or collecting fees, and increasing ticket prices in violation of regulations.
