In the afternoon of March 16, unseasonal thunderstorms continued to occur in Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces and cities. The thunderstorm appeared right at rush hour, making many roads in Ho Chi Minh City crowded, making it difficult for people to travel.
Rain accompanied by gusts of wind and lightning appeared in a short time, causing many people to stop their vehicles to shelter from the rain, while some low-lying roads began to experience localized water stagnation, causing traffic to move slowly.
According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar and lightning positioning systems shows that convective cloud areas are developing, causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas. Specifically, thunderstorms appear in wards/communes such as Ben Thanh, Cau Ong Lanh, Cho Quan, Binh Tien, Binh Phu, Tan My, Tan Hung, Phu Dinh...
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas; then it is possible to expand to neighboring areas.
Common rainfall is from 5-15 mm, in some places over 20 mm. During thunderstorms, it is necessary to watch out for tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s), and localized flooding may occur due to heavy rain.
The weather pattern causing thunderstorms is due to wind disturbances at high altitude.
