According to the plan, tomorrow morning (January 26), the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will listen to a report on the preparation for the groundbreaking ceremony, commencement and inauguration of the works on February 9, 2026.
In the list of projects reported, there is Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem) 6.2 km long, all underground.
The route starts from Ben Thanh station, goes along Ham Nghi road, crossing the Saigon River to Thu Thiem New Urban Area and continues along Mai Chi Tho road to Thu Thiem station.

The route direction has been determined to be stable, with favorable ground, allowing for quick implementation of the next steps.
The project is proposed by Truong Hai Group (Thaco) to be invested in the public-private partnership (PPP) method, BT contract type (build - transfer).
Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro is one of the three sections of Metro Line No. 2 with a total length of more than 62 km, connecting from Thu Thiem New Urban Area to Northwest Cu Chi Urban Area.

Previously, on January 15, 2026, Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh to Tham Luong), nearly 11.27 km long, with a total investment of more than 55,000 billion VND, was started and is expected to be completed in 2030. This project is also undertaken by Thaco as the general contractor, responsible for implementing construction.
Metro line No. 2 from Tham Luong to the Northwest Cu Chi urban area will be invested after 2030.
In parallel, Thaco is currently studying an investment plan for the 42 km Thu Thiem - Long Thanh urban railway line.
The route has its starting point at Thu Thiem station (An Khanh ward, Ho Chi Minh City), ending point at Long Thanh airport (Dong Nai province), with a scale of 20 stations and 1 depot.
The preliminary total investment of the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line is about 84,753 billion VND, of which compensation, support and resettlement costs are about 5,504 billion VND.
The route has a route running along the corridor of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and Ring Road 3, mainly passing through vacant land, so it is very convenient for site clearance. Thaco plans to start construction of this route on June 30, 2026 and complete it in 2030.
When Metro Line 2 is extended to Thu Thiem and connected to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh urban railway line, Ho Chi Minh City will form a modern transport corridor, directly connecting Tan Son Nhat airport - Ho Chi Minh City center - Long Thanh airport.
Passengers from Tan Son Nhat airport can move to Ba Queo station to take Metro Line 2 to Ben Thanh station, continue to Thu Thiem station and connect the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line to Long Thanh airport.
