Ho Chi Minh City plans to recover land from 474 households, of which 248 households are completely cleared to open a new Northwest road nearly 10 km long connecting Tay Ninh province.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee a pre-feasibility study report on the project to build a new Northwest road nearly 10 km long.

The starting point of the route intersects with Ring Road 2 HCMC (National Highway 1), about 844 m south of Nguyen Thi Tu intersection (belonging to Binh Tan ward); the ending point is at the border of Tay Ninh province, connected to the DT. 823D project.

According to the proposal, the road has a length of about 10 km, a cross-section of 25 - 52 m, meeting 6-8 lanes of traffic. The design speed is 80 km/h for the main route, especially the section from National Highway 1 to Quach Dieu street is designed to be 60 km/h to suit the regional planning; the parallel route has a speed of 60 km/h.

The project will build a series of important infrastructure works such as 3 overpasses over canals (Central, Inter-regional, An Ha) with a scale of 4 - 6 lanes.

Many elevated bridges and overpasses at major intersections are also invested, including: overpass at Ring Road 2 intersection; overpasses on Nguyen Thi Tu, Vinh Loc, Quach Dieu axes; overpasses in Ring Road 3 intersection in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the route, 5 important intersections are also built, connecting with existing road systems such as Ring Road 2, Nguyen Thi Tu, Vinh Loc, Quach Dieu, routes along the Central Canal, Inter-regional Canal and Ring Road 3 of Ho Chi Minh City.

The total investment of the project is over 17,200 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget.

In which, compensation, support and resettlement costs account for the majority, about 10,801 billion VND. The total recovered land area is about 56.92 ha, compensation area is 53.12 ha.

The project affects about 474 households, of which 248 households are completely cleared and 226 households are partially cleared.

To speed up progress, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction proposed separating compensation, support, and resettlement work into an independent project. Accordingly, the project is divided into 4 components.

Compensation, support, and resettlement in Binh Tan ward is about 1,805 billion VND. Compensation in Tan Vinh Loc commune is about 922 billion VND. Compensation in Vinh Loc commune is about 8,073 billion VND.

The component project to build the main road is about 6,452 billion VND.

It is expected that the project will be implemented from 2026 to 2029. In which, compensation and site clearance work will be carried out from the second quarter of 2026 to the second quarter of 2027; construction will start in the second quarter of 2027 and be completed in the second quarter of 2029.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the new Northwest road is of great significance in completing the regional transportation network, reducing pressure on existing axes, and strengthening the connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh.

When completed, the road will join axes such as Tran Van Giau, Quach Dieu, Vo Van Van, Nguyen Thi Tu... forming a synchronous traffic system in the western area of the city, contributing to promoting urbanization, developing residential areas and creating motivation for socio-economic development for Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring areas.
