On the morning of August 27, at the Fourth Session (specialized session), the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council considered and decided on many important contents under its authority, including adjusting the investment policy for the project to upgrade and expand Nguyen Thi Tu street, the section from Le Duc Anh street (formerly National Highway 1A) to Vinh Loc Industrial Park.
The project was previously approved for investment policy by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in the period 2016 - 2021, with a length of about 800m, width of 40m, scale of 8 lanes and a total investment of 970 billion VND. However, to date, the project has not been implemented.
According to the adjusted plan, the project is about 2.4km long, 40m wide, with a scale of 8 lanes. At the end of the route, a 10m wide and about 600m long viaduct will be built, connecting to Vinh Loc road.
The total investment is expected to increase from 970 billion VND to nearly 6,500 billion VND. According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the total investment increase is mainly due to expanding the scope and scale of the project, leading to a larger site clearance area and increased compensation costs.
The project passes through Binh Tan ward, Tan Vinh Loc commune and Vinh Loc commune, with a total affected land area of about 9.6ha.
There are 434 cases affected by the project, of which 23 cases must be relocated due to total impact and 411 cases are partially affected.
In Binh Tan ward alone, there are 380 affected cases, including 21 cases that must be completely cleared and 359 cases that are partially affected.
In Tan Vinh Loc commune, there are 54 affected cases, including 2 cases requiring relocation and 52 cases partially affected.
If approved, the project is expected to deploy surveying, drawing, compensation, support, resettlement and site clearance from the first quarter of 2027 to the second quarter of 2028.
The contractor selection is expected to be carried out from the fourth quarter of 2027 to the second quarter of 2028. Construction is expected to start from the second quarter of 2028 and be completed in the third quarter of 2031.
Nguyen Thi Tu Street is located in the western gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City, currently only about 7.5m wide, while the traffic volume is large and congestion often occurs.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the expansion of Nguyen Thi Tu street will contribute to completing the traffic network in the western area, increasing connectivity with existing roads and industrial parks, and reducing congestion pressure on the route.
The project is also expected to create synchronization with traffic projects that are and will be implemented in the area.
In which, the project to upgrade and expand Vinh Loc road, the section from Tran Van Giau road to road No. 2A - Vinh Loc Industrial Park, has been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council to adjust the investment policy, expected to be implemented in the period 2026 - 2029.
In addition, the project to build a new road in the Northwest, the section from Ring Road 2 to the border of Long An province, is being prepared by the Department of Construction for a pre-feasibility study report, expected to be implemented in the period 2027 - 2031.
When the projects are completed, the transportation network in the western area of Ho Chi Minh City will be strengthened, contributing to solving congestion, shortening cargo transportation time, creating convenience for people to travel and promoting socio-economic development.
