The Management Board of Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Projects of Ho Chi Minh City recently proposed the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City to consider and report to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to invest in the construction of Vam Thuat Bridge (across the Vam Thuat River) connecting Binh Thanh District and District 12.
The right bank of the bridge belongs to Ward 13, Binh Thanh District, connecting directly to Dang Thuy Tram Street. The left bank belongs to An Phu Dong Ward, District 12, where there is currently no existing traffic route, only the planned extension of Vuon Lai Street.
It is expected that Vam Thuat Bridge will be built with reinforced concrete on a permanent scale, with a bridge surface from 16 to 20m wide, accommodating 4 traffic lanes.
The total investment for the construction of the Vam Thuat Bridge is estimated at VND1,136 billion, of which VND329 billion will be spent on construction costs, and the remaining VND807 billion will be spent on compensation and site clearance. Most of this funding will be used to clear the site in District 12, where the approach road to the bridge has only been planned and has not yet been built.
According to the Project Management Board, the construction location of Vam Thuat Bridge is consistent with the urban planning projects approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee such as: 1/2000 scale zoning plan of zone 4, south of An Phu Dong ward, District 12 approved in 2013; detailed urban construction plan of Binh Hoa residential area, Ward 13, Binh Thanh district approved in 2009.
However, to complete the project, it will take time to complete all legal procedures related to compensation and site clearance, especially in District 12. It is expected that the entire project, including preparation, construction and site clearance, will take about 36 months to complete.
Currently, An Phu Dong area, District 12 has a rather limited transportation system connecting to central districts such as Binh Thanh and Go Vap. Travel mainly relies on the temporary An Phu Dong iron bridge - a small bridge that is often overloaded, especially during rush hour.
This bridge only allows motorbikes and small vehicles to pass, making it impossible for large vehicles such as buses or trucks to pass.
Apart from the temporary iron bridge, An Phu Dong area has almost no other convenient transportation options, leading to difficulties in connecting with central districts.
When built, Vam Thuat Bridge will directly connect Ward 13, Binh Thanh District with An Phu Dong Ward, District 12, creating convenience for traveling between areas.
Instead of having to depend on the current temporary bridge, people will have a safer and faster traffic solution, while helping to reduce traffic pressure on other routes.
Not only improving traffic conditions, Vam Thuat Bridge also opens up opportunities for socio-economic development for An Phu Dong and neighboring districts, promoting regional development.
