Ho Chi Minh City reclaims land from 275 households to widen Nguyen Duy Trinh Street (from Ring Road 2 to Phu Huu Industrial Park), raising the road surface from 7m to 30m.

The capital team doubled after nearly 10 years of delay

On the morning of September 29, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council passed a resolution to adjust the investment policy for the project to upgrade and expand Nguyen Duy Trinh Street (from Ring Road 2 to Phu Huu Industrial Park).

This project was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2015 with a total capital of more than 832 billion VND, implementation period 2017 - 2021.

Nguyen Duy Trinh Street (from Ring Road 2 to Phu Huu Industrial Park) is 1.6km long and will be expanded from 7m to 30m, accommodating 6 traffic lanes.

However, for many years, compensation and site clearance have not been implemented, causing the project to " remain inactive".

According to the new adjustment resolution, the total investment will increase to VND1,859 billion, extending the implementation period to 2028.

Of which, compensation, support and resettlement costs account for more than 80% of total capital, increasing from VND507 billion to VND1,506 billion (3 times higher than the original plan).

According to the plan, the procedures for adjusting investment policies, appraisal feasibility studies and design reports will be completed in 2025 - 2026. Compensation, support and resettlement will take place throughout 2026.

It is expected that the contractor selection will be completed by the end of 2026, then started and constructed in the period from the end of 2026 to the end of 2027. The project will be accepted and finalized in 2028.

A blood vessel becomes a "black spot of death"

Nguyen Duy Trinh Street is an important traffic axis at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, passing through many residential areas, businesses, construction material gathering areas and directly connecting to Phu Huu Port. Every day, this route has more than 10,000 trucks and containers circulating.

In particular, the 1.6 km long section from Phu Huu roundabout (Ring Road 2) to the gate of Phu Huu Industrial Park is considered a "black spot" for traffic accidents.

The road surface is only about 7m wide, trucks and containers when traveling in the opposite direction almost occupy the entire road surface, forcing motorbikes to squeeze into risky spaces.

Although there are signs prohibiting trucks and containers during rush hour, many drivers still ignore the regulations. At night, the situation of vehicles running at high speed and continuously blowing air horns makes people even more insecure.

On the route, the authorities have put up many warning signs, along with statistics on the number of fatal accidents, but accidents still occur consecutively. Therefore, this road section has long been called the "road of death" by people in Ho Chi Minh City.

The upgrading and expansion of Nguyen Duy Trinh Street is expected to eliminate traffic black spots, reduce congestion and accidents, and meet the growing demand for trade connections in the eastern gateway area of the city.
