HCMC reclaims more than 206 hectares of land to build a highway worth nearly 20,000 billion VND

Ho Chi Minh City - The city plans to reclaim more than 206 hectares of land in 11 communes of Cu Chi district to implement the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway project, with a total capital of nearly 20,000 billion VND.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway (Tay Ninh Province) is one of the projects on the list of land acquisition for socio-economic development, which has just been submitted by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for approval.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway project has a total length of nearly 51 km, of which the section passing through Ho Chi Minh City is more than 24.7 km long.

In phase 1, the expressway will be built with a scale of 4 lanes, however, the site clearance will be carried out according to the 6-lane plan to facilitate future expansion.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the project needs to reclaim more than 206 hectares in 11 communes of Cu Chi district, including: Phuoc Thanh, Trung Lap Ha, Trung Lap Thuong, Phuoc Hiep, Tan Thanh Tay, Tan Thanh Dong, Nhuan Duc, Phu Hoa Dong, Phuoc Vinh An, Tan An Hoi and Tan Phu Trung.

According to the plan, the list of projects requiring land acquisition will be submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for consideration and approval at the nearest session.

In this session, Ho Chi Minh City will also submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for approval of the investment policy and assign a public investment capital plan for 2 projects: Investment in the construction of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway; investment in the construction of technical infrastructure for the resettlement area to serve the investment project to build the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway and other public service projects in Pham Van Coi commune, Cu Chi district.

According to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, out of a total of more than 206 hectares of recovered land, there are about 7.65 hectares of residential land, 136.99 hectares of agricultural land, 1.4 hectares of non-residential non-agricultural land and 36.2 hectares of land for roads, canals, ditches, ditches, etc.

In total, 1,877 households are affected by the project. Of which, about 254 households are eligible for resettlement, 178 households have houses on agricultural land and 11 households have non-agricultural land other than residential land.

Currently, the work of marking and determining boundaries to serve site clearance is being implemented and is expected to be completed by the end of March.

It is expected that by July 2025, the People's Committee of Cu Chi district will complete the detailed compensation plan and pay compensation, reclaiming at least 173.2 hectares of land. By the end of August 2025, the site will be ready to serve the project's commencement.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway Project (phase 1) has a total investment of nearly 20,000 billion VND, implemented under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.

According to the plan, on September 2, 2025, the project will officially start construction of a residential road and a bridge across the highway using state budget capital.

By January 2026, the main expressway (phase 1) will be started under a BOT contract, aiming to be completed by the end of 2027.

When put into operation, the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway will help increase the capacity to connect international traffic between Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia through Moc Bai Border Gate, while significantly reducing the load on National Highway 22.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway, when completed, will help reduce the load on National Highway 22, connecting Ring Road 3 and Ring Road 4.

Thereby, developing the industrial - urban chain of Moc Bai - Ho Chi Minh City - Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port in conjunction with the Xuyen A economic corridor, promoting the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh in particular and the provinces in the Southeast region in general.
