On March 22, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that it had requested the People's Committee of District 4 to speed up compensation and site clearance to hand over to the investor before August 2025, to serve the implementation of the Nguyen Khoi bridge and road project.
In District 4, the project needs to reclaim about 1.7 hectares of land, affecting 148 cases, including 25 organizations and 123 households. The total compensation cost is more than 1,000 billion VND.
At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport requested the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board (investor) to speed up related procedures such as selecting contractors, completing technical designs and organizing bidding, ensuring the project's progress to start construction no later than early September 2025.

The Nguyen Khoi bridge and road project has been significantly delayed compared to the previous plan. According to the original plan, some bridge and approach road items on the District 1 side will start construction in the fourth quarter of 2024.
However, due to delays in site clearance and local planning adjustments for 1/2000 scale subdivision projects in District 1, District 4 and District 7, the start of construction progress has been delayed.
Currently, from Nha Be area, District 7 to the center of Ho Chi Minh City through District 1 and District 4, there are only two main roads: Nguyen Huu Tho - Kenh Te bridge and Huynh Tan Phat - Tan Thuan bridge - Nguyen Tat Thanh. Both of these roads are often overloaded, causing serious traffic congestion, especially during rush hour.

Since 2016, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council has approved the policy of building Nguyen Khoi bridge and road with a total investment of 1,250 billion VND (later increased to more than 2,800 billion VND due to scale adjustment). However, for the next 7 years, the project was still on paper due to lack of capital.
At the end of 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council adjusted the investment policy for the Nguyen Khoi bridge and road project, with the total capital increased to more than VND 3,700 billion from the city budget.

Nguyen Khoi Bridge and Road has a total length of nearly 5 km, of which the bridge section is about 2.5 km, 6.5 - 25.5 m wide; the road section is more than 2.3 km long, 26.5 - 61.5 m wide.
The project starts from D1 road (connecting Saigon University with Nguyen Van Linh street and Him Lam residential area, District 7), then the main bridge crosses Te canal by overpass along Nguyen Khoi street. The bridge continues to cross Ben Nghe Canal, connecting to Vo Van Kiet Street (District 1).
In addition to the main route, the project includes branches connecting to the streets below, Tran Xuan Soan, Ton That Thuyet and Vo Van Kiet.
It is expected that Nguyen Khoi Bridge and Road will be completed in 2027, helping to reduce the load on existing routes and contribute to completing the regional traffic infrastructure, promoting socio-economic development between the central districts and the South.
