HCMC responds to tropical depression, hydroelectric reservoirs release overflow

HẠ MÂY |

Faced with the impact of the tropical depression, Ho Chi Minh City has activated a series of response solutions.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the highest water level of the day at most stations on the Saigon River will decrease slowly in the next 5 days. The highest daily tide peak will be approximately at or above alert level 2 and will last until November 26-27, while Thu Dau Mot station will be at or above alert level 3 for the next 5 days.

Due to the impact of the spillway discharge of Dau Tieng Lake, the water level at Dau Tieng station rose rapidly in the first 1-2 days, then changed slowly and remained at a high level above alert level 2.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City said that the tropical depression is likely to become a storm, causing strong winds of level 6, gusting to 7-8, waves 2-4 m high in the sea area from Lam Dong to Ca Mau; Ca Mau - An Giang - Phu Quoc sea area has winds of level 4-5, gusting to 6-7, waves 1.5-2.5 m, and light seas. Both sea areas have showers, thunderstorms, the risk of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

To proactively respond, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City recommends that departments and localities closely monitor meteorological bulletins; prepare prevention plans when low pressure strengthens into a storm; prepare rescue forces and be on duty 24/7.

Coastal localities, border guards, coastal information and fisheries must ensure the safety of people and boats; regularly report weather developments; instruct boats to escape from dangerous areas to safe shelters; count and grasp the location of fishing vessels, especially vessels in areas directly affected.

Irrigation and infrastructure units coordinate with localities to operate reservoirs, drainage culverts, control tides; prepare pumps to handle flooding during heavy rains. Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company, Tri An Hydropower Plant and lake management units coordinated to reduce flooding downstream, avoiding unfavorable combinations between heavy rain and flood discharge.

Relevant units proactively plan to prevent and quickly overcome infrastructure incidents.
