Ho Chi Minh City and the South continue to have moderate to heavy rain over a wide area with high probability

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the area continues to have moderate to heavy rain over a wide area.

In the afternoon of July 28, monitoring on satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning showed that convective clouds are developing, causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas in Ho Chi Minh City and the South.

Areas with strong convective clouds include An Thoi Dong commune, Can Gio commune, Bac Tan Uyen commune, Phu Giao commune, Phuoc Hoa commune... In which, some points in An Thoi Dong and Can Gio recorded radar response intensity of about 50-51.5 dBZ, showing strong thunderstorm development.

In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas, then it is likely to expand to neighboring areas.

Common rainfall is from 6-30mm, in some places over 40mm. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7, equivalent to 8-17m/s. Heavy rain can cause localized flooding.

The current situation causing thunderstorms is that the Southwest monsoon is operating with moderate to strong intensity. In the South, the low pressure trough has its axis passing through the Northern region.

In the next 24-48 hours, the low pressure trough will have its axis passing through the Northern region and the Central coast. Southwest monsoon in the Southern region will operate with moderate to strong intensity.

Above, the subtropical high pressure gradually encroaches westward. The western convergence zone of the subtropical high pressure moves into the Southern region and continues to the West.

In the next 3-10 days, a low pressure trough with its axis through the North will weaken, then it is likely to form again at the end of the period. Southwest monsoon is operating with moderate intensity. Above, the subtropical high pressure continues to encroach westward and expand southward, gradually weakening from August 3.

Therefore, in the coming days, the South will continue to have moderate to heavy rain over a wide area, with a probability of rain of about 60-70%.

Rainstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind can affect agricultural production, causing trees to fall, damage to houses, traffic works and infrastructure.

Heavy rain also has the risk of causing flooding, traffic jams, affecting production, travel, and daily life of people and crops.
