Ring Road 2 - Pham Van Dong intersection accelerates construction
On the afternoon of September 17, at the Ring Road 2 - Pham Van Dong intersection area, many green trees on Pham Van Dong street have been relocated and cut down to serve construction. Machinery and equipment have been mobilized to implement the project items.
Ring Road 2 - Pham Van Dong intersection is an important item belonging to section 2 - Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 project, more than 2.4 km long, from Vo Nguyen Giap road (formerly Hanoi Highway) to Pham Van Dong road. The project has a total investment of more than 4,500 billion VND.
According to the design, the intersection is organized in a 3-layer scale, including overpasses, underpasses and ground traffic systems, to separate traffic flows and limit conflicts at the intersection.
On the overpass level, bridge number 1 consists of 2 branches, with a scale of 6 two-way lanes, located on Ring Road 2 and overcoming Linh Dong, Pham Van Dong, Kha Van Can and Rach Ngang streets.
Bridge No. 2 is 2 lanes wide, serving the flow of vehicles turning left from Ring Road 2 down to Pham Van Dong street, in the direction of Tan Son Nhat airport.
Below, a 2-lane underpass is arranged for vehicles turning right from Pham Van Dong street, in the direction of Tan Son Nhat airport, to the National Highway 1 - Go Dua intersection.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), in the later stage, this intersection will be supplemented with a 4-lane two-way overpass, serving the flow of vehicles going straight along the Pham Van Dong axis.
In addition to the intersection, the contractor is constructing the sections of Ring Road 2 that have been handed over land.
The entire intersection of section 2 - Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 is expected to be completed in 2027.
Binh Thai intersection expected to start construction in October
In the Binh Thai intersection area, site clearance has not been completed. Some houses have been relocated, while there are still some households living and doing business within the project area.
The Traffic Board said it is coordinating and urging relevant units to urgently complete compensation and hand over the site in the third quarter of 2026.
According to the plan, the bidding package for the construction of the Binh Thai intersection is expected to commence in October 2026.
Binh Thai intersection is an item belonging to section 1 - Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2, the section from Phu Huu bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap road, about 3.5 km long. The total investment of the entire project is more than 9,328 billion VND.
Binh Thai intersection is designed in a complete architectural form. The project includes a steel overpass in the direction of Ring Road 2, across Vo Nguyen Giap street, combined with underpasses on the Vo Nguyen Giap parallel road.
Organizing high-speed traffic helps vehicles on Ring Road 2 and Vo Nguyen Giap road to circulate continuously, while reducing direct intersections in areas that frequently experience congestion.
Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 is about 64 km long, surrounding the inner city area. The road was planned for nearly 20 years but has only completed about 50 km to date.
In addition to sections 1 and 2 being implemented, section 3, more than 2.7 km long from Pham Van Dong to Go Dua intersection, has been constructed for nearly 10 years in BT form but has not been completed. The city sets a goal to complete all three sections by 2027, thereby closing Ring Road 2 East.
