On September 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said it is preparing a pre-feasibility study report for 2 projects to expand Nguyen Van Bua street and upgrade and expand Duong Cong Khi street in the Northwest gateway area.
According to the plan, the projects are expected to be submitted to competent authorities for consideration and approval of investment policies by the end of 2026.
Two projects are on the list of 98 key traffic and technical infrastructure projects and works to be implemented by Ho Chi Minh City in the period 2026 - 2030.
Expanding Nguyen Van Bua street to 40m
Nguyen Van Bua Street is the main axis connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Tay Ninh province, and also plays the role of the Northwest gateway of the city. However, the road currently has a rather narrow cross-section, only about 11 - 14m, while the traffic volume is large, so congestion often occurs.
Notably, the Big Bridge intersection area on Nguyen Van Bua street has many intersections located close to each other, making traffic organization difficult.
At the beginning of the bridge towards Tay Ninh, there are currently intersections with An Ha and XTS 12 roads. On the Ho Chi Minh City side, the road continues to intersect with Dang Cong Binh and Thanh Nien roads.
The intersections are located close to each other, with limited ground clearance and located in the bridge slope area. When vehicles simultaneously change direction, traffic flows are prone to conflicts, causing congestion and potential traffic unsafety risks.
According to the proposal, the project to expand Nguyen Van Bua road, the section from National Highway 22 to the border of Tay Ninh province, is about 7.4km long.
The road will be expanded to 40m, with a scale of 6 lanes. The project also builds a new large bridge unit and a provincial road 9 bridge unit, each bridge about 58m long and 17.5m wide; and expands the existing provincial road 9 bridge.
The total estimated investment of the project is about 5,934 billion VND, from the Ho Chi Minh City budget.
Duong Cong Khi street will be expanded 30 - 40m
Along with Nguyen Van Bua, Ho Chi Minh City is also preparing to invest in upgrading and expanding Duong Cong Khi road - an important traffic route connecting the Northwest area with the West of the city.
This road connects the Hoc Mon area with Binh Chanh previously, and intersects with many roads in the area, creating a connection direction from National Highway 22 to residential and production areas in the West.
However, Duong Cong Khi road is currently only about 7-8m wide, while the traffic volume is increasing. The narrow road surface makes the route often congested, especially in intersection areas.
The project to upgrade and expand Duong Cong Khi road is proposed to be implemented on the section from National Highway 22 to the intersection of Nu Dan Cong, Pham Van Sang and Quach Dieu streets, with a length of about 7.95km.
According to the research plan, the road surface will be expanded to 30 - 40m, with a scale of 4 - 6 lanes.
