On June 15, Vinasarcom HCMC sent a document to the People's Committee of Cu Chi district and related units requesting urgent repair of the landslide on the Saigon River embankment of the Saigon - North Rach Tra right-bank irrigation project.
According to the report on the incident, on June 13, a serious landslide occurred on the bank along the Saigon River (from K8+360 to K8+460, in Hamlet 3, Binh My Commune, Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City). The landslide area is about 70m long, 50-70cm deep, with many cracks 2-5cm wide.
By dawn on June 14, the landslide location continued to develop complicatedly, widening by about 10m and encroaching about 5m into the embankment, increasing the risk of affecting nearby households and natural disaster prevention works.
Initially, the cause was determined to be due to weak soil characteristics, the area had a history of landslides. At the same time, the fact that many heavy-duty vehicles (over 10 tons) often exceed the allowable load (5 tons) has created great pressure on the embankment body, making landslides more serious.
The Saigon River embankment section belongs to the project "Upgrading the right-bank irrigation works along the Saigon River in Cu Chi District from Provincial Road 8 to Rach Tra (Bac Rach Tra)" invested by the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development (now the Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board). Currently, the project's technical design and total estimate have been approved and the contractor selection process is in progress.
To ensure the safety of the project and stabilize the lives of residents in the area, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has in the immediate future requested the Cu Chi District People's Committee to direct the construction unit to implement a temporary solution: use soil sacks to build embankments towards the village (on the people's land), widen the dike surface by 1.5m, 100m long, the dike surface elevation reaches +2.2m to cope with high tides. At the same time, continue to monitor landslides to promptly take appropriate handling measures.
The Ho Chi Minh City Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention also requested relevant units to coordinate in inspecting, zoning, warning, organizing fences, installing surveillance cameras and handling overloaded vehicles operating on the dike to ensure safety of works during and after the 2025 storm season.
