From 3 passenger car tailgate accidents on the highway, warning about driver skills

Lê Thanh Phong |

3 consecutive cases of passenger cars crashing into the rear of trucks and container trucks on the highway in recent days are a worrying sign.

Three cases occurred on three different routes, at different times but with one common point: Passenger cars crashed into the back of vehicles running or stopping in the same direction.

At about 11 am on August 16, on the expressway section near the Vinh - Nam Dan intersection, a passenger car carrying dozens of people crashed into the rear of a container truck running in front.

Previously, at about 3 am on August 15 on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway, a passenger car collided with the rear of a truck traveling in the same direction, killing a female foreign passenger.

At 11:30 am on August 14, on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway, a passenger car crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer; initial information shows that the car did not keep a distance.

The continuous tailgate raises a question, how does the passenger car driver keep a distance from the car in front?

It is not possible to hastily accuse the driver without investigation conclusions, but factors such as speeding, not keeping distance, lack of concentration, drowsiness, fatigue or using the phone while driving all need to be clarified.

The technical condition of the vehicle, especially the braking system, tires and safety equipment, must also be checked.

In particular, transport businesses must be responsible for organizing and managing drivers. It is impossible to require a driver who is exhausted to have the reflexes of someone who is completely conscious.

Therefore, controlling driving time, rest, and vehicle maintenance is not an administrative procedure to complete dossiers, but life-threatening barriers.

Businesses cannot hand over the steering to drivers who have alcohol and beer habits, or even are addicted to drugs.

The consequences of a traffic accident are not only human lives and property but also social damage that is difficult to calculate.

When an accident occurs, hundreds of vehicles behind have to brake suddenly, change lanes, and slow down, which can lead to chain collisions.

An accident often causes traffic jams on the entire highway, causing even completely unrelated people to suffer the consequences.

Therefore, each passenger car driver must understand that they are driving not just one car but the lives of dozens of people on the car and the work of hundreds of people on the same route.

Transport businesses must regularly tighten procedures, and cannot set flight times, number of trips, and revenue above safety.

Drivers must also realize that a good driver is not about driving fast, but about always ensuring safety, taking passengers to their destination.

Slow but reaching the destination is better than fast but never reaching the destination.
