From infrastructure to social security, Ho Chi Minh City towards a livable city

    Experts expect a series of projects on September 2nd to create a synchronous infrastructure network, while people expect practical changes in travel, housing and living environment.

    According to Dr. Vo Kim Cuong - former Deputy Chief Architect of Ho Chi Minh City, the value of the 16 projects is the connection between projects. When transportation, urban railways, social housing, environment and urban embellishment are implemented synchronously, investment efficiency will spread throughout the space of Ho Chi Minh City.

    Projects such as Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro, Ring Road 4, National Highway 1, National Highway 13 and inter-regional routes will open up more development corridors, creating conditions to attract residents, businesses and services.

    Metro connecting Long Thanh airport will be more efficient when associated with ring roads, roads and railways. Expanded gateways also need to connect with logistics networks and new urban centers" - Mr. Cuong analyzed.

    Mr. Cuong noted that Ho Chi Minh City needs to control spontaneous development along new traffic routes, while prioritizing urban areas associated with public transport. If well organized, these projects can become a resource for restructuring urban space for decades.

    Dr. Tran Quang Thang - Director of the Institute of Economics and Management of Ho Chi Minh City - said: "Transport creates connectivity capacity, while social housing, urban embellishment and environmental works determine whether people really benefit or not. Simultaneous implementation of project groups will create a more comprehensive socio-economic impact.

    According to Mr. Thang, Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro may open up a new economic corridor with Long Thanh airport; Ring Road 4, National Highway 1 and National Highway 13 to help increase transport capacity and reduce logistics costs. Meanwhile, about 10,000 social housing units and renovation projects in Cho Ga - Gao, Ma Lang directly impact the housing problem.

    Ho Chi Minh City not only needs a larger city but must be a more livable city" - Mr. Thang emphasized.

    Mr. Nguyen Van Minh (50 years old, Tam Binh ward) expects new transportation, metro and infrastructure projects to be completed soon to reduce congestion, shorten travel time and expand the city's development space.
