Project completed on schedule
The Thunder Monument on Route 5 is a place to pay tribute to soldiers and guerrillas who died in mine operations on Route 5 and the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway. The project to build the Thunder Monument on Route 5 was implemented from 2023 in Tuan Viet Commune, Kim Thanh District (Hai Duong Province) with a total investment of 55.5 billion VND by the Hai Duong Provincial Investment Project Management Board as the investor.
After more than 1 year of construction, the Thunder Monument on Highway 5 was completed on schedule.
According to recorded documents, Thunder on Route 5 was a resistance movement against French colonialism on Route 5 and the Hai Phong - Hanoi railway by the army and people of 3 provinces: Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen.
After the success of the August Revolution, the French colonialists returned to invade our country for the second time. Realizing that this was the most important artery in the Northern battlefield, the French colonialists set up many posts and watchtowers, launched many patrols and sweeps along Route 5 and surrounding areas, committing many crimes against our people.
Realizing that Route 5 and the Hai Phong - Hanoi railway have a strategic and important position, during the resistance war against French colonialism, the army and people of Hai Duong, along with Hai Phong and Hung Yen, fought steadfastly, clinging to their land and villages, destroying each enemy.
With the slogan "Non-stop gunfire, non-stop mines on Route 5 to coordinate with Dien Bien Phu", the army and people of Hai Duong organized many mine attacks, contributing to the depletion of enemy forces, weapons and vehicles on Route 5, preventing enemy support for the Dien Bien Phu battlefield.
Proud of its glorious history
After the campaign, many names and heroes of Hai Duong land were forever engraved in history. There were talented and brave soldiers who were honored as "Mine Kings". Among them, two "Mine Kings" were awarded the noble title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, Mr. Nguyen Van Thoa and Mr. Nguyen Dinh Vien.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Huy (Dai Duc commune, Kim Thanh district, Hai Duong province), the grandson of "King of mines" Nguyen Van Thoa, said that he felt very proud when admiring the completed monument. The Thunder Monument on Road 5 reminded Mr. Huy and his descendants of the heroic history of their grandfather.
According to Thanh Huy, when he was a child, his grandfather often told his grandchildren about the mine attacks that destroyed enemy forces, weapons and vehicles on Highway 5.
"In my childhood, I don't remember many details that my grandfather told me. However, the pride and honor of my grandfather has followed me since I was little. When I look at the Thunder Monument on Road 5, my heart is filled with pride for my grandfather and for the resilient and heroic generation of our ancestors" - Mr. Thanh Huy said.
As a representative of the young generation of Tuan Viet commune, after the completion of the Thunder Monument on Road 5 in her hometown, Ms. Tran Thi Cuc - Secretary of the Youth Union of Tuan Viet commune (Kim Thanh district, Hai Duong province) hopes to spread the spirit of national pride to all young people.
"I feel very honored and proud to see a historical project built in my hometown. The project has helped our young generation understand more about the historical significance of the mine battles on Route 5 and the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway. Through that, it helps the young generation to appreciate and be proud of our nation's traditions.
I hope that the young generation will always promote the spirit of revolutionary tradition, sense of responsibility, and build the Fatherland to become more and more rich, beautiful, and civilized" - Ms. Tran Thi Cuc said.
