Ho Chi Minh City - After 9 years of construction, the Ring Road 2 section from Go Dua bridge to Pham Van Dong street is being accelerated, aiming to be completed in 2027.

Acceleration after 6 years of stagnation

On September 19, at the Ring Road 2 construction site (section 3 - from Go Dua overpass to Pham Van Dong street), dozens of workers and many machines are urgently constructing.

The investor requires contractors to focus manpower, equipment, and organize 3 shifts, 4 teams of construction.

At some locations, workers are pulling cables to operate cement pile drilling machines - an important step to reinforce the weak soil foundation before constructing the roadbed.

According to Van Phu Bac Ai Joint Stock Company (investor), the project currently has nearly 40% of the workload.

In 2026, the investor aims to complete the main structure of 3 bridges including Rach Lung, Ong Viet and Go Cat; and at the same time, complete the foundation and road surface for technical traffic.

The project is expected to be completed, accepted and put into use in early 2027.

6-lane road waiting for connection day

Section 3 of Ring Road 2 was started in 2017, with a total investment of more than 2,700 billion VND in the form of BT (build - transfer).

The project is more than 2.7km long, with a site clearance width of 67m. According to the plan, the route is built with two parallel roads, 3 lanes on each side; the land in the middle is reserved for future expansion.

According to the initial plan, the project was completed in 2020, creating a connection between Pham Van Dong road and National Highway 1, shortening the journey and reducing pressure on National Highway 13.

However, from March 2020, the project had to be temporarily suspended due to site clearance problems, the contract adjustment appendix had not been signed, and the payment of land funds to investors had not been completed.

After the Government issued Resolution 212 in July 2025, the project's obstacles were gradually removed. By May 2026, the construction site was restarted after 6 years of stagnation.

More "doors" for the Northeast

The completion of this Ring Road 2 section is being placed in the context of National Highway 13, the section from Binh Trieu bridge to Vinh Binh bridge, which has started expansion.

In the coming time, National Highway 13 will become a large construction site with many sections having to be barricaded for construction. This is a road with high traffic density and population, so traffic organization during construction is forecast to face a lot of pressure.

In that context, the Ring Road 2 section from Go Dua intersection to Pham Van Dong street plays an important role in supplementing traffic directions for the Northeast area of Ho Chi Minh City.

When the road is completed, vehicles from National Highway 1 can pass Go Dua intersection, follow Ring Road 2 to Pham Van Dong street to enter the center of Ho Chi Minh City.

In the opposite direction, vehicles from the center have more choices to follow Pham Van Dong - Ring Road 2 to National Highway 1, instead of depending on National Highway 13.
