In the late afternoon of June 11, prolonged heavy rain over a wide area caused Nguyen Van Khoi street - one of the flooded "black spots" of Ho Chi Minh City - to continue to be submerged in a sea of water.
Records at the scene show that the section of road about 300m long on Nguyen Van Khoi street is deeply flooded.
In some places, the water rises to nearly half a motorbike wheel, causing many vehicle drivers to slow down and grope through the flooded section. Many people are worried that their vehicles will stall and turn around to find another route.

Water not only overflows the road surface but also flows into people's houses, residential areas and parks along both sides of the route. According to local people, every time heavy rain appears, this area is often heavily flooded and the flooding situation can last for many hours before receding completely.

To solve the prolonged flooding situation for many years, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing a project to renovate the drainage system on Nguyen Van Khoi street with a total investment of more than 353 billion VND.
The project has a length of about 4.74km, including renovating the existing sewer system with dimensions from 0.4 - 1m, installing additional box sewers with dimensions of 1.2 x 2.5m and restoring the road surface after construction.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (the investor), the project is expected to be completed in 2026.
When put into operation, the project will contribute to solving the flooding situation on Nguyen Van Khoi, Le Van Tho streets and many neighboring areas such as Lang Hoa Park, part of Pham Van Chieu street, area No. 51 and connecting branches.
According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the whole city currently has 159 points that are frequently flooded. Among them, the area of Ho Chi Minh City before the merger had 76 flooded points, Binh Duong had 52 points and Ba Ria - Vung Tau had 31 points.
To gradually handle this situation, in 2026, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to deploy and complete 24 flood control projects with a total investment of nearly 38,000 billion VND.
The projects are expected to handle 29 out of a total of 159 flooding points in the entire area.
The Ho Chi Minh City area previously would implement 11 projects with a total capital of more than 24,445 billion VND, thereby solving 12 flooding points.
Binh Duong area previously had 7 projects with a total capital of more than 12,552 billion VND, handling 4 severe flooding points.
The Ba Ria - Vung Tau area previously implemented 6 projects with a total capital of about 960 billion VND, contributing to handling 13 flooding points.
