Recently, many people in Tuyen Quang province have reported unusually high electricity bills in August.
Mr. Truong Van Long (Hong Thai village 13, Yen Son commune) said that in July his family paid 724 thousand VND for electricity bills. In August, the electricity bill increased to 1.3 million VND. This is a record the family has had to pay ever.
"My family still uses electricity as usual. 2 air conditioners, TV, refrigerator, a few light bulbs to light up the pigsty. There has not been much change, but the electricity bill has almost doubled, said Mr. Long.
When receiving the electricity bill in August, not only Mr. Long, many people in Tuyen Quang wondered whether the electricity measurement system would operate accurately or not.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung (village 11, Bac Quang commune) said that her family's electricity bill in July and August increased dramatically, from more than 700,000 VND in previous months to 1.5 - 1.6 million VND.
"The family still uses electricity like before, without changing their living habits, why is the electricity bill still high", Ms. Dung wondered.
According to Mr. Pham Hai - Head of Business Department - Tuyen Quang Power Company, from August to now, the unit has received over 1,400 customer recommendations related to high electricity bills. Some of the bills have risen more than 30% since July.
According to Tuyen Quang Power Company, the main reason for the high electricity bill in August 2025 is due to the widespread hot weather. The temperature for many days exceeds 40 degrees, causing the demand for cooling equipment to increase sharply.
At 10:30 p.m. on August 4, the Northern Power System recorded a maximum capacity of 18,983.9 MW and a commercial power output of up to 393.090 million kWh - the highest level ever.
Compared to the most recent record recorded on July 18, electricity consumption capacity increased by 52.9 MW and output increased by 3.7 million kWh.
In response to people's reflections on the sudden increase in electricity bills, the Department of Industry and Trade of Tuyen Quang has stepped in to check and verify.
Accordingly, the interdisciplinary inspection team of the province was established with the participation of the Department of Industry and Trade, Electricity Company, Police, and Department of Science and Technology.
On September 11 and 12, the team directly inspected household electrical meters and domestic electrical systems of households with sudden increases in invoices. The inspection area is in Yen Son, Son Duong communes and Minh Xuan ward.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Hieu - Head of the Energy Department (Department of Industry and Trade) said that the inspection team determined that the inspection must be conducted comprehensively, closely and absolutely objectively.
When dismantled, all meters are sealed and transferred to independent specialized agencies for inspection. The entire process is in compliance with regulations, all power measurement data is accurate and transparent. In case of detecting errors or violations, resolutely handle them according to regulations, ensuring the legitimate rights of customers.
