Reduce purchasing power
This year's moon cake market started early with many new products with diverse flavors, carefully invested in design. From big streets to supermarkets, many brands have covered the shelves, but the number of customers still is quite sparse.
A sales staff at Kinh Do bakery said: "This year, the design is more diverse, in which the melted Lava Choco cake line is sought after by many young people, some stalls even have no more products to sell. Prices are generally stable like every year, ranging from 60,000 VND/piece - 428,000 VND/piece. High-end cake lines have prices from 600,000 VND/box - 5 million VND/box depending on design and flavor".
However, sales staff shared that compared to last year, current purchasing power is slower, usually only increasing sharply near the Mid-Autumn Festival.
At many other cake stalls, sales staff said: "At this time, consumers mainly buy as gifts, compared to last year, the number of customers this year is a bit less".
Mr. Nguyen Van Quang (Dak Lak), during his business trip to Hanoi, bought 6 boxes of cakes as gifts for his children and grandchildren: "Mid-Autumn Festival is a long-standing traditional occasion, every year I buy cakes to give as gifts. This time in Hanoi, I took the opportunity to buy it so that my family could enjoy the traditional flavor."
Ms. Vu Thi Thu Huyen - Director of MM Supermarket Thanh Xuan Center commented: "Up to this point, although prices are stable, the number of people who want to buy moon cakes as gifts or for consumption is quite low, compared to previous years, this year's market is somewhat slower".
The appearance of "fi Phi" sticky rice cake
In addition to familiar flavors, this year's market also witnessed the appearance of many new types of cakes, attracting attention on social networks. Typically, the appearance of "fiber-fried" sticky rice cake when the price of this product makes many consumers wonder.
Selling cakes with colleagues with the desire to experience new flavors of cakes, Ms. Bui Thi Thu Lan (Ha Long ward, Quang Ninh) shared: "The cakes are not too sweet, sticky like mochi, many fillings of eggs, my children really like it. With such quality, the price of 590,000 VND/pair I find quite worthy".
Meanwhile, Ms. Dao Thi Thao (Quang Ninh) said that this price is not really suitable: "Each person's taste is different, I personally still prefer traditional cakes. Young people may like to try new flavors, but at the above price, I am not ready to buy.
